I will always recommend that a child has a speech and language assessment prior to commencing therapy to help determine SMART goals for therapy.
The assessment will take place at The Wimbledon Practice and includes a developmental history, administration of a range of standardised assessment, developmental questionnaires, informal observation and review of previous professionals’ reports. The assessment will test receptive and expressive language, articulation, phonology and social communication skills. A report is provided within three weeks of the initial assessment and will include a discussion, assessment results and analysis with recommendations. Charlotte is able to offer multidisciplinary assessment for autism using the most up to date measures. The team are able to offer screen assessments for preschoolers.
Nursery and school visits can be arranged for the purpose of informal observation and discussion with staff to formulate a holistic view of a child’s language and communication skills. Therapy programmes and sessions can also be arranged within a nursery or school setting where appropriate.
Therapy sessions can take place at The Wimbledon Practice, in school or the home. Targets for therapy sessions will be derived from assessment results and through discussion with other professionals and parents. Sessions may involve working on the development of receptive and expressive language skills, articulation, phonological, narrative and/or social communication skills.
